Legacy

If I could summarize one of my greatest ambitions in life, it would be this: creating opportunity where otherwise there would be none. This has implications in just about any arena: health care, education, poverty abatement. And on a more emotional level, it translates directly on to people who spend their days believing that they are not important or that they do not matter for whatever reasons – the people who are isolated by illness, old age, unfortunate economics, traumatic life experiences. So for me, it is simple: showing people that they matter today.

Of course, it goes without saying that people matter even in the process of their passing away. When one’s physical exterior begins to recede, then at the exact same time, the spiritual interior builds up and becomes richer. We begin to appreciate one’s essence, the hidden places where one finds larger meaning in the most simple of things. It gets less complicated. It becomes more about the giving and receiving of love. We begin to recognize only the good in things, the decency of people. Things that represent anything else just have no place – they seem silly, petty, pathetic.

The spiritual place in which I now find myself is actually quite glorious. It can take some physical suffering to get here. But perhaps one must know this degree of suffering to know true joy, and to experience true peace.

Love, joy, and peace – for everyone, anytime, and anywhere.
